General Nature of Public Improvement
Proposed Water Main Replacements - Wildwood Drive and Mary Street - Ottumwa Water & Hydro –2025
The project consists of constructing approximately 2,200 L.F. of 8-inch main via trenched construction, 785 L.F. of 12-inch main via trenched construction, 497 L.F. 8” main via trenchless construction, and 378 L.F. of 6” main via trenchless construction. The project is located on Wildwood Drive from Finley Avenue to Albia Road and on Mary Street from Milner Street to Schuyler Street. In addition to the water main, this project includes 11 tie-ins with the existing distribution system, 67 water service connections, and 8 new fire hydrants.
Time and Place for Filing and Opening Sealed Bids
Sealed bids for the work comprising each improvement as stated above must be filed before 1:00 P.M. on December 11, 2025, at the office of the General Manager at Ottumwa Water & Hydro,230 Turner Drive, Ottumwa, Iowa. Sealed bids will be opened at 1:00 P.M., December 11, 2025.
Time for Commencement and Completion of Work
The work under the proposed Contract shall commence upon issuance of the written Notice to Proceed. Work on Mary Street shall not start until after school is dismissed in the Spring of 2026 and shall be fully complete prior to school resuming in the Fall of 2026. The remainder of the proposed water main improvements listed shall be fully completed on or before September 30, 2026. The Bidder agrees to pay as liquidated damages the sum of $500 for each consecutive calendar day after the specified completion date that the project is not fully completed.
Contract Documents
Drawings and specifications governing the construction of the proposed improvements have been prepared by French-Reneker-Associates, Inc., Engineers and Surveyors, Fairfield, Iowa. The contract documents may be examined at the office of the General Manager.
